Physicochemical and microbial assessment of effluent from slaughter slab in Kirtipur Municipality, Kathmandu, Nepal

The number of slaughterhouse facilities and retail meat shops has been on the rise, leading to an increase in amount wastewater they produce. Wastewater is hazardous environment as it causes deoxygenation water bodies, pollutes groundwater, spreads several diseases if released untreated. study was conducted slaughter slabs Kirtipur Municipality evaluate physicochemical characteristics microbial status wastewater. Fifteen samples were collected analyzed per APHA-AWWA-WEF for total coliform count. average values chemical oxygen demand (COD) biological (BOD) 574.5 mg/L 284.5 mg/L, respectively exceeded generic standards tolerance limits industrial effluent. level count fresh 733 CFU/100 mL 7.72 × 104 mL, respectively.
